Gospel Greetings #294- 21 Irrefutable Laws Ch 11: The Law Of The... (12.1.25) by Kari Yli-Renko
Dear Brothers, Thank you for all who came to the healing service for Gerry Visser last Thursday. It was a blessed and sacred time. Please continue to prayed for Gerry, Wilma and family. This week we continue The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership with Chapter 11 The Law Of The Inner Circle From Genesis 24:1, 2, 4 1 Abraham was now very old, and the Lord had blessed him in every way. 2 He said to the senior servant in his household, the one in charge of all that he had, 4 go to my country and my own relatives and get a wife for my son Isaac.” Abraham had a matter of supreme importance to get done. To find a godly wife for his son Isaac, who was not a Canaanite. But, at well over 100 years old, he was unable to go himself. So who does he send? His trusted, yet unnamed aid. And, the man does well, by going to Abraham’s kinsmen and coming back with Rebekah. So, Maxwell says that A Leader’s Potential Is Determined by Those Closest to Him Whenever we see incredibly accomplished people, it’s easy to believe that they got there by themselves and give them all the credit. Yet, nothing truly great was achieved by one person alone. This is especially true of leaders. For a leader to achieve at all—or even be considered a leader—he or she needs a team. Together, they can make an impact. How much of an impact depends on who is on the team—and especially those in the inner circle. The people in a leader’s inner circle need to represent the leader well, make the leader better, or both. 1. First, they should be trustworthy. If they’re going to represent or influence you, they should demonstrate excellence, maturity, and good character in everything they do. 2. Next, they should add value to you and the team. A team consists of individuals who contribute at every level. The people you invite into your inner circle should have a proven track record as assets, both to the organization and to you personally. 3. Also, You need people whose gifts complement yours. Leaders can’t be strong in every area. Don’t fill your team with people just like you. Instead, include individuals in your inner circle who are gifted where you are not. 4. Finally, Seek for your inner circle people who get along and help you and each other improve. Solomon of ancient Israel recognized this truth when he wrote, “As iron sharpens iron, friends sharpen the minds of each other.” But don’t forget, the first step is to grow in godly character. And then surround yourself with the best leaders you can find. Hamilton Christmas Social - Save the date, December 29th at the ‘C Hotel’, Christmas social with spouses. Gospel Greetings #293- 21 Irrefutable Laws Ch 10: The Law Of Connection (11.24.25) by Kari Yli-Renko
Dear Brothers, There will be a healing service for Gerry Visser this Thursday November 27th, at Grace Community Christian Reformed Church. 70 Garner Street Road, Hamilton at 7:00pm. He will be prayed for and anointed with oil. This week we continue The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership with Chapter 10 The Law Of Connection From Philemon 1:8,9 8 Therefore, although in Christ I could be bold and order you to do what you ought to do, 9 yet I prefer to appeal to you on the basis of love. This short letter is amazing to me. We see Paul, the apostle and man of God not using hos spiritual authority, but making a heart connection with Philemon on behalf of his servant. What a lesson for us. This week’s big idea is that “Leaders Touch a Heart Before They Ask for a Hand” Maxwell says that it is vital that a leader connects with a person at an emotional level before that leader gives instruction or asks a person to do something. A good leader looks to find a connection with a person through shared interests or even a joke before giving instruction. He gives the following guidelines: 1. Be relational, not positional: Barking orders is positional. It assumes that your employees will rush to obey simply because you’re in charge. But remember, leadership is influence. And people will ultimately follow you because they want to. This was the approach Paul took with Philemon and it is recorded for eternity in the Bible! 2. Take the first step: Many leaders assume that connecting is the responsibility of followers. They think, I’m the boss. It’s their job to find out what I want. Let them come to me. But effective leaders are initiators. 3. Listen and learn: Listen to who they are and what they want. Communication is about more than the message. You need to know your audience and meet them where they are. 4. Be authentic and offer real help: Don’t act caring. Be caring. Believe in your people’s value. And practice what you preach. When your words accurately represent who you are, what you believe, and how you act, you gain credibility with your team. And people want to partner with a leader they believe in. What could happen in your area of responsibility if you connected with others more effectively? Gospel Greetings #292- 21 Irrefutable Laws, Ch 9: The Law Of Magnetism! (11.17.25) by Kari Yli-Renko
Dear Brothers, This week we continue The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership with Chapter 9 The Law Of Magnetism From Exodus 33:9, 11 9 As Moses went into the tent, the pillar of cloud would come down and stay at the entrance, while the Lord spoke with Moses. 11 The Lord would speak to Moses face to face, as one speaks to a friend. Then Moses would return to the camp, but his young aide Joshua son of Nun did not leave the tent. The Law of magnetism states that ‘Who you are is who you attract.’ Moses is called “The man of God” multiple times in scripture. His successor would also need to be this type of man. How do you attract good candidates who possess the qualities you desire? You may be surprised because who you attract is not determined by what you want. It’s determined by who you actually are. Why are the Dallas cowboys, once so revered and respected, now the subject of conflict and controversy? For years Tex Schram and coach Tom Landry ran a tight ship that focused on character and excellence. Now the owner is Jerry Jones who likes to be in the spotlight and creates controversy to get it. Jerry attracts who he is! Maxwell lists 3 characteristics that you probably consider important in a team member: 1. Positive attitude: Positive people aren’t attracted to a negative work environment. They don’t want to work for leaders who talk about how bad things are all the time. The good news is that attitude is a choice. When you choose to focus on the good, you will create a culture that positive people want to be part of. 2. Trustworthiness: Most of us don’t consider ourselves untrustworthy. But there is more to trustworthiness than just not lying. To be worthy of trust involves telling the whole truth, keeping commitments, and acknowledging reality. If you want to attract followers who are trustworthy, be real. Only make commitments that you will keep. And don’t ignore or deny troublesome issues. 3. Work ethic: Want team members who are willing to work hard? Then let people see you hard at work. Don’t expect punctuality or a commitment to excellence from others if you come in late or do your job half-heartedly. Your list probably includes other traits, such as perseverance, energy, or growth potential. The Law of Magnetism still applies. If you focus on developing the qualities in yourself that you want from others, you will build a unified team that can achieve a great deal together. Joshua was in the tent of meeting with Moses. He never left. Like Moses, He was a man of God. Who are you attracting today? Hamilton Christmas Social - Save the date, December 29th at the ‘C Hotel’, Christmas social with spouses. Gospel Greetings #291- 21 Irrefutable Laws, Ch 8: The Law Of Intuition! (11.10.25) by Kari Yli-Renko
Dear Brothers, This week we continue The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership with Chapter 8 – The Law of Intuition From Acts 9:26-28 26 When Paul came to Jerusalem, he tried to join the disciples, but they were all afraid of him. 27 But Barnabas took him and brought him to the apostles. He told them how Saul…, had seen the Lord and that the Lord had spoken to him, and how in Damascus he had preached fearlessly in the name of Jesus. 28 So Saul stayed with them… speaking boldly in the name of the Lord. Barnas had intuition about Paul. He saw something in Paul and sponsored Paul to the Apostles. He knew by spiritual intuition that Paul was an anointed leader. Paul became the greatest evangelist for Christ and scripture writer Chapter 8 is The Law of Intuition which states that "Leaders Evaluate Everything with a Leadership Bias”. Leadership intuition is when a leader looks at a situation and is able to assess and comprehend what needs to happen in order to make a decision. This decision is made through the collection of data and the experience of the leader. Over time, a growing leader will have a sense of what needs to be done in order to accomplish the goal or address the situation. Every person is intuitive in some way in an area where they are naturally talented or experienced, whether it’s football, or public speaking, or engineering. Top performers in a field evaluate every situation with a bias based on their expertise. Good leaders are no different. They evaluate everything with a leadership bias. And while naturally talented leaders may start with more intuition in this area, everyone who wants to lead can increase their leadership intuition by the Spirit. Intuition is not concrete. It doesn’t rely on empirical evidence alone. Instead, it is an instinct informed by the Holy Spirit along with our talent, knowledge, and experience. It’s like a lens through which we see the facts based on who we are in Christ and what we already know. This is valuable because it enables us to rapidly predict problems, make decisions, and seize opportunities. It often helps us avoid being surprised or blindsided. Effective leaders pay attention to progress and try to assess whether things are humming along or about to grind to a halt. Spirit led intuition helps us read trends by looking ahead, and to expand our view and take in the big picture. In your current role, what kinds of questions can you ask yourself or other leaders you respect, to begin to think more intuitively in terms of leadership? 2026 Global Exchange - Ixtapa/Zihuantanejo, Mexico April 11-18, 2026. Gospel Greetings #290- 21 Irrefutable Laws Ch 6: The Law Of Respect! (Nov 3, 2025) By Kari Yli-Renko
Dear Brothers, What a week with a terrific Hamilton Breakfast and a great Ottawa Retreat! See photos below. This week we continue The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership with Chapter 7 – The Law Of Respect From Daniel 5:10-13 10 The queen… said. “Don’t be alarmed! 11 There is a man in your kingdom who has the spirit of the holy gods in him. In the time of your father he was found to have insight and wisdom like that of the gods. Your father, King Nebuchadnezzar, appointed him chief of the… astrologers and diviners. 12 He did this because Daniel, was found to have a keen mind and understanding, and also the ability to interpret dreams, explain riddles and solve difficult problems. Call for Daniel, and he will tell you what the writing means.” What a story of respect this is! Even though Daniel was an exile from Judah and a slave, he rose to become ruler in Babylon. And Even though he gave the king bad news, the king recognized the anointing and courageous truth spoken by Daniel and so he promoted Daniel to senior leadership. So, LAW #7 is THE LAW OF RESPECT Similar to the high necessity of trust, is the necessity of respect. The Law of Respect reminds us that “people naturally follow leaders stronger than themselves.” Maxwell says, “One of the greatest potential pitfalls for natural leaders is relying on talent alone... good leaders rely on respect. They understand that all leadership is voluntary.” He says, “when people respect you as a person, they admire you. When they respect you as a friend, they love you. When they respect you as a leader, they follow you.” The opposite is true as well. As soon as people lose respect for you, your influence over them will disappear. The Main Point is: The person who is the strongest leader is usually highly respected by all, and everyone will follow him because of that respect. Think of a leader that everyone seems to naturally follow, what about that person drew others to him or her? Usually there are 5 factors says Maxwell: 1. Natural Leadership Ability, Some just have that magnetic quality, 2. Respect For Others, by Showing respect for others, you build respect for yourself, 3. Courage, people appreciate someone with the Courage and conviction to do what is right, 4. Success, A proven track record sure helps build respect, and 5. Loyalty, dedication to others is very rare, and an asset. This week, Is there one of these factors you can ask God to help you grow in? 2026 Global Exchange - Ixtapa/Zihuantanejo, Mexico April 11-18, 2026. Marquita and I plan to go. Gospel Greetings #289- 21 Irrefutable Laws Ch 6 The Law Of Solid Ground (10.27.25) by Kari Yli-Renko
Dear Brothers, You can still sign up for the Ottawa Retreat. See below for new Saturday only option! The Hamilton Breakfast Forum happening tomorrow at the HG&CC is now closed. This week we continue The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership with Chapter 6 – The Law Of Solid Ground From Matthew 23:1-3, 5a 1 Then Jesus said to the crowds and to his disciples: 2 “The teachers of the law and the Pharisees sit in Moses’ seat. 3 So you must be careful to do everything they tell you. But do not do what they do, for they do not practice what they preach. 5 “Everything they do is done for people to see: Maxwell defines The Law of Solid Ground by saying, “trust is the foundation of leadership” This week’s scripture verses include Jesus words describing a group of people who never established solid ground to lead from. The Pharisees lives were full of hypocrisy, so trust with people was never built. These Pharisees were about the only people Jesus really rebuked or spoke against. For us, building trust is perhaps the greatest challenge we face as leaders in the 21st century. Too many people are disillusioned with leaders because self-serving leaders have too-often abused it. Trust, then, is the most important element in leadership. If you do not have trust, you have nothing to offer. Maxwell says that we build trust “by consistently exemplifying competence, connection, and character,” and that we must “treat trust as our most precious asset.” He later writes, “How do leaders earn respect? By making sound decisions, by admitting their mistakes, and by putting what’s best for their followers and the organization ahead of their personal agendas.” This is because, “no leader can break trust with his people and expect to keep influencing them, ” and, as we already know, “leadership is influence, nothing more.” So, if Trust Is the Foundation of Leadership, then Trust is also the foundation of relationships. It is the glue that holds an organization together. Leaders cannot repeatedly break trust with people and continue to influence them. It just doesn’t happen. Why do you think trust so important to us? Because no one will open themselves up unless they feel safe. And that feeling of safety is based on trust. Just think of a time when have you broken trust with someone, and the ramifications. The carnage left after this break is proof of the importance of this Law John mentions that leaders can earn “relational change” in your pocket, or have it taken away. What can you do this week to help build relational trust in your relationships Hamilton Leadership Forum Breakfast - Set aside Tuesday October 28th at 7:00am for the annual LeaderImpact Speaker Forum at the Hamilton Golf & Country Club. Gospel Greetings #288- 21 Irrefutable Laws, Ch 5: The Law Of Addition (10.20.2025) by Kari Yli-Renko
Dear Brothers, This week we continue The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership with Chapter 5 – The Law Of Addition From Philippians 2:1-4 1 Therefore if you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any common sharing in the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, 2 then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and of one mind. 3 Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, 4 not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others. Chapter 5 is The Law of Addition, and nobody knew this law better than the apostle Paul. In this letter to the church at Philippi, he reminds them of our responsibility to help and serve others like Christ did. Maxwell’s big idea is “Leaders Add Value by Serving Others” The interaction that exists between every leader and follower is a relationship. A relationship can be added to or subtracted from in a person’s life. When leaders see that success cannot be achieved without people, it changes the mindset of the leader. Leaders who add value by serving others stand to gain more in life than just economic prosperity. Greatness is built with people, while mediocrity is achieved by oneself. Maxwell says that we add value to others when we truly value them and intentionally make ourselves valuable to them. He says, “90 percent of all people who add value to others do so intentionally.” The most helpful way we do this is to actually get to know the people we are leading, find out their priorities, goals, hopes, and dreams, and then figure out what we can do to assist them in getting where they need to go. Maxwell says, “Inexperienced leaders are quick to lead before knowing anything about the people they intend to lead. But mature leaders listen, learn, and then lead.” Forgiveness is a big part of this process. Ben Franklin said, “The handshake of the host affects the taste of the roast.” When we hold grudges against one another, it eliminates the desire to help and serve others. So, we must remember how God has forgiven us and helped us through Jesus as a first step. In your current season and situation, how can you use whatever power and position you have to best serve others, especially the people you lead? What attitudes, objectives, and actions must you ask God to change in order to become more humble and obedient, as Jesus was? Is there a specific action you can take this week to add value to the people you lead and serve them? Gospel Greetings #287- 21 Irrefutable Laws, Ch 4: The Law Of Navigation (10.13.25) by Kari Yli-Renko
Dear Brothers, This week we continue The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership with Chapter 4 The Law Of Navigation From Nehemiah 4:14-15 Nehemiah speaking 14 After I looked things over, I stood up and said to the nobles, the officials and the rest of the people, “Don’t be afraid of them. Remember the Lord, who is great and awesome, and fight for your families, and your homes.” 15 When our enemies heard that we were aware of their plot and that God had frustrated it, we all returned to the wall, each to our own work. This week we see probably the best biblical example of a skilled marketplace Leader who navigated very difficult waters. Nehemiah and the Jewish people were surrounded by enemies who did not want to see them rebuild the walls of Jerusalem. They made threats, sent accusatory letters to the king, planted spies, etc. So Nehemiah showed them how to trust God, be vigilant, and also do the work of rebuilding the wall. His plan inspired the people. So, we see that the LAW OF NAVIGATION is essential to keep people motivated and on track. This law follows closely after the law of process. Once you have determined the process to get where you are going personally, the next step is being able to navigate your organization through challenges and obstacles to reach to success. Maxwell quotes Jack Welch, former CEO of General Electric, as saying, “A good leader remains focused... Controlling your direction is better than being controlled by it.” The Law of Navigation is where leadership differentiates itself from other voices wanting to be heard. Leaders look back at prior successes, and past hurtful failures. They learn from those things and then look ahead to see where conflict and challenge may arise. With all of these in mind, leaders will pre-emptively respond according to those challenges as they move forward toward the goal. This is more than vision casting. This is determining what it will take to fulfill the vision. Maxwell says it this way: “Anyone can steer the ship, but it takes a leader to chart the course.” So, the three major components to this type of navigation are vision, strategy and execution. Do you see how Nehemiah skillfully exercised all three in rebuilding the wall of Jerusalem? When it comes to vision, strategy and execution which do you do best? Which do you need God’s help in?? Gospel Greetings #286- 21 Irrefutable Laws, Ch 3: The Law Of Process (Oct 6, 2025) by Kari Yli-Renko
Dear Brothers, This week we continue The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership with Chapter 3 The Law Of ProcessFrom 1 Kings 12:13, 14 (where all Israel rebels against Rehoboam as king)13 Rehoboam, The king answered the people harshly. Rejecting the advice given him by the elders, 14 he followed the advice of the young men and said, “My father made your yoke heavy; I will make it even heavier. Chapter 3 is THE LAW OF PROCESS; How we need to grow into our leadership over time with God’s help.In this chapter we see the failure of Solomon’s son Rehoboam as king. The people rebel against him and another takes his throne.Rehoboam did not listen to wise counsel and impulsively listened to his friends and got stuck.Maxwells subtitle for this chapter is, “Leadership Develops Daily, Not in a Day.” This means that you can tell where a person will end up by watching their daily habits and priorities. Rehoboam hung out with his young buddies and was not interested in seeking God’s face, or heeding the counsel of experienced leaders.Maxwell encourages that as a leader, we must have a personal plan for growth. He asks, “What can you see when you look at a person’s daily agenda? You’ll see: Priorities, passion, abilities, relationships, attitude, personal disciplines, vision, and influence” All of those things contribute to the destination you will arrive at later on in your journey of life. Therefore, it doesn’t matter at all where you hope to end up, if you do not first determine which road you ought to be traveling on to get there. So, we saw David in the previous chapter trust God and grow into a successful king and a man after God’s own heart. This week we see Rehoboam, David’s grandson who didn’t seek God or wise elders. He never grew into a man of character and lost his throne. So, like last week, who is influencing you as you influence others? Today, you can call out to God and ask Him for wisdom. Let Him help you develop a personal growth plan. Then like David, the process will lead you into being a godly influence. As we have been saying, by trusting in Christ you can grow your influence and ability to lead!
