Gospel Greetings #300 -Sent By Revelation Not Determination! (Jan 12, 2026) by Kari Yli-Renko
Dear Brothers, Please remember (and reply to Marc LeBlanc for) the Ottawa Christmas social on Jan. 21st at One Way Ministries. This week we do Being Sent By Revelation vs Determination From Isaiah 6:1-3, 5-8 1 I saw the Lord, high and exalted, seated on a throne;… 2 Above him were seraphim… 3 calling to one another: “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord Almighty; the whole earth is full of his glory.” 5 “Woe to me!” I cried. “I am ruined! For I am a man of unclean lips… and my eyes have seen the… the Lord Almighty.” 6 Then one of the seraphim flew to me with a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with tongs from the altar. 7 With it he touched my mouth and said,… your guilt is taken away and your sin atoned for.” 8 Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?” And I said, “Here am I. Send me!” This is Gospel Greetings number 300. Hard to believe we’ve been at this for 300 weeks. What I have seen over this time, is that God is calling us to have a more intimate relationship with Him, and to let that relationship drive all we do. Last Sunday our youth pastor spoke on the call of Isaiah from Isaiah 6. His message reverberated in my heart. The bottom line is this: Let our actions be fueled by Revelation first, not just Determination. I love working with you marketplace guys. Why? You believe change is possible, and You get things done. But, one of the challenges in all this result producing activity is making the time to still our hearts and listen to God for His direction. Lets learn from Isaiah 1. Revelation: Isaiah saw the Lord on a high throne, surrounded by seraphim. He was in the presence of God and recognized His holiness. Holy holy holy. 2. Purification: Isaiah felt he was ruined, for his sin and the sin of the people he lived among. So, a seraph touched Isaiah's lips with a burning coal, purifying him of sin. 3. The Commission: God asked, "Whom shall I send?" 4. Isaiah's Response: "Here I am! Send me!". This New Year, God is inviting you and I to come into His presence with awe and wonder of His holiness. From this revelation to see our own unworthiness. Ask God to cleanse us and make us pure in His sight. Then hear His specific call for you and answer yes, Here I am send me. So, this new year, let the revelation of our holy God drive all you do. Not, your determination and drivenness. Gospel Greetings #299 - Advent - Complete Change #2! (Jan 5, 2026) by Kari Yli-Renko
Dear Brothers, For those of you who missed it… HAPPY NEW YEAR! Congrats to Kevin Morris and Hamilton Team on a terrific Christmas social. Also, please remember (and register for) the Ottawa Christmas social on Jan. 21st at One Way Ministries. This week we do the Fifth and final week of Advent called - A Complete Change Session #2 From Revelation 21:5 5 He who was seated on the throne said, “I am making everything new!” Then he said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.” The renovation we talked about last week is new, but it is only partial. This incompleteness is kinda prophetic. This new life in us, has not reached its fulness here, and is not yet fully manifested. It’s like an exotic plant that doesn’t show its true beauty in a northern greenhouse. The life of a Christian on earth is a prophecy by both its greatness and its smallness, by both its glory and its shame. But, in this world we will always fall short of our aspirations in our actual performance. On earth, the best Christian life is like a half-lit street, with long gaps between the street lights. The surroundings on earth are inhospitable to Christians. ‘Foxes have holes’-all creatures are fitted for their environment; only renewed man, wanders as a pilgrim, not in his home. The present time is for discipline. When our schooling is over, the rod of discipline is put aside. So God will create a new order in full correspondence with our new nature. And Christ enthroned ‘makes all things new.’ There will be a new kingdom in perfect harmony with our renewed nature. Our new home will serve and help and gladden and further us, and won’t distract and clog our spirit anymore. Brothers, let Christ’s love compel you; and look to Christ to renew you. Whatever your old self may have been, you can bury it deep in His grave, and rise with Him to newness of life. Then you can walk in this old world, as new creatures in Christ Jesus. New creatures with the future hope of entire renewal into the likeness of Him, the perfect man, in a perfect world, where all old sorrows and sins have passed away and He has made all things new. Through eternity, new joys, new knowledge, new likeness, new service will be ours. Eternity will be a continual renewal and a progressive increase of ever fresh blessings. The new and the old will be one. Begin with trusting Him to help you to change your sin-stained character, and He will make you a new man, and set you in His own time in a ‘new heaven and earth, where righteousness dwells.’ So, in Advent we expect our King to return again. And all will be permanently changed. Hamilton Christmas Social - What a blast! Thank you to Steve Bernstein for sharing his faith story. Gospel Greetings #298 - Advent - Real Change #1! (Dec 29, 2025) by Kari Yli-Renko
Dear Brothers, The New Year is upon us… HAPPY NEW YEAR! This week we do the Fourth week of Advent called - A Real Change Session #1 From 2 Corinthians 5:17 17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, He is a new creation: The old has gone, the new has come! As we complete The advent season, I’d like to consider the question, “Can people change?” Many say no way! Even Jeremiah says “a leopard can’t change his spots, you who are accustomed to doing evil.” Yet I am of another camp. Because we are accustomed to doing evil does not mean we must continue in evil. This is why Christ has come. To make us new. To bring real change. But, it is very difficult. We are so steeped in our old habits of sin, acquaintances, and of course our flesh and it’s lusts. Its like a magnetic pull to sin that to many seems irresistible. Some would say just do your best, try harder and you’ll be alright. And you are… for a while. Then, what happens? Yes, we fall back again into the old rut. So, our text sets forth a possibility of entire individual renewal. ‘If anyone is in Christ he is a new creation,’ and not only is he renewed, but all things are become new. He is a like a new Adam in a new world. I didn’t say perfect, yet, that’s next week. I said new. There will still be temptation to the old sins you revelled in, and you will still have the consequences of those sins. Yet you are new. New if you are in Christ, which implies a personal union with Him, in His spiritual kingdom. And that union is brought about by faith in Him. Being in this union breaks the chain that binds us to the past. The past is broken by the great act of forgiveness. Sin holds us by making us feel that we can never overcome. Yet, in Christ we die to that former self. This union brings a new divine power to work in us. ‘I no longer live, but Christ lives in me.’ Christ lives in me by the power of the Holy Spirit. So as Acts 1:8 says we have a new ally against sin, the power of the Holy Spirit All this is true in the measure in which we live in spiritual union with Christ. You don’t have to despair. Even if you have tried and been defeated a thousand times. Victory is possible. There is hope for all, and hope for ME. So, in Advent we have a new King, and by faith we become new in Him. And He will change us from the inside out. Hamilton Christmas Social - December 29th at the ‘C Hotel’, Christmas social with spouses. Gospel Greetings #297 - Advent - The King Returns! (Dec 22, 2025) by Kari Yli-Renko
Dear Brothers, Last Chance! Please see the e-invite for the Hamilton Christmas Social at C-Hotel on December 29th at the bottom of today's email. This week we do the third week of Advent messages called The King Returns! From Luke 1:69-70 “Praise be to the Lord, the God of Israel, because he has come to his people and redeemed them. 69 He has raised up a strong King (horn[c]) of salvation for us in the house of his servant David 70 (as he said through his holy prophets of long ago), I really enjoyed the Lord of the Rings Trilogy. Especially the third episode called “The King Returns” In it we see a simple Ranger called Strider finally take his rightful place as Aragorn the king of Gondor in fulfillment of an ancient prophecy. Sounds familiar doesn’t it? Yes, It sounds like Jesus, from the house of King David, who became king over all in fulfillment of prophecy. In 2 Samuel 7, the Lord promised David that He would establish an everlasting kingdom, raising up a son who would reign on his throne forever. David’s kingdom was the hope of Israel. Today’s scripture reveals that Christ is the promised son of David. He is the new David, the King who rules as covenant head of His people as scripture reveals. Much of who Jesus is and what He did is directly related to the person of David and the promises God gave him. King David is a type of Christ to come. King Jesus is a spiritual type of David. It starts with a name. The prophets refer to the promised messiah as “David”, and “the righteous Branch of David”. David’s name carries a typical relation to the person of Christ, as Dabid is the Hebrew word translated “beloved.” Jesus is God’s beloved Son, the antitype of the beloved David Both were born in Bethlehem as Micah prophesied. Also, David was a shepherd when the Lord called him to rule over Israel and shepherd His people. Jesus is the Good Shepherd, the chosen and Anointed One appointed by God to shepherd His people, the true Israel. So, Jesus is the long-awaited King who brings salvation and rules with justice. a strong King of salvation. He does more than redeem or pay the price for us, he also saves us in the deepest and most complete sense. Saves from sin, death, addiction, the devil. Here’s the bottom line. HOPE! Yes, HOPE! This fulfilled Davidic covenant assures believers of God's faithfulness and the ultimate triumph of Christ's eternal kingdom. The Lord of the Rings is a hope filled story, But, real hope is expressed by us when celebrating Advent, the coming of our Davidic King Jesus. Hamilton Christmas Social - Last Chance To Register! Gospel Greetings #296 - Advent Defined! (Dec 15, 2025) by Kari Yli-Renko
Dear Brothers, Please see the e-invite for the Hamilton Christmas Social at C-Hotel on December 29th at bottom of today's email. Also, the obituary and funeral details for John Westeinde are at this link: https://ottawacitizen.remembering.ca/obituary/john-westeinde-1093364721 This week we do the second week of Advent messages called Advent Defined From Revelation 22:20 “He who testifies to these things says, ‘Surely I am coming soon.’ Amen. Come, Lord Jesus!” Advent is the four-week season of anticipation that leads to Christmas Day. It celebrates the coming of God in the flesh — in the person of Jesus Christ. Advent is about preparing your heart while you wait for Jesus to arrive. Since the Middle Ages, this tradition of Advent has encouraged slowing down and reflecting on Jesus coming in person and looking forward to the time that He has promised to return. The word “Advent” means the arrival — or coming — of a noteworthy person, event or thing. In this case, God coming to earth in the person of Jesus Christ, the promised Messiah. Christmas is the celebration of Jesus’ birth. And, Advent is the anticipation of that birth. Advent begins on the fourth Sunday before Christmas. Depending on where Christmas falls on the calendar, the total number of days can vary between 22 and 28 days. Advent has traditionally been a celebration of Jesus’ first coming — the season leading up to Christmas Day. The first Advent anticipates Jesus’ arrival to earth in the form of a baby (Christmas). The second Advent anticipates Jesus’ Second Coming, when He returns in all His glory to establish His kingdom on earth and judge the world. As Christians we can live every day with the eager anticipation of the Second Coming. The next-to-last verse in the Bible (Revelation 22:20) has become the hopeful expression for Christians of every generation. “He who testifies to these things says, ‘Surely I am coming soon.’ Amen. Come, Lord Jesus!” The first coming of Christ was the culmination of the whole Old Testament. And the Second Coming of Christ will be the culmination of the New Testament. Today, you can look back and honor the anticipation of Christ’s first Advent and look forward with eager anticipation to His second Advent. All of our suffering, striving, hope, faith, joy and peace find their meaning in the return of Christ, when “He will wipe away every tear from [our] eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away (Revelation 21:3-5, ESV).” Advent reminds us of the hope in the coming of Christ. The hope experienced when celebrating Advent is what makes life worth living. Hamilton Christmas Social - Register now. Gospel Greetings #295- Advent - Kinsman Redeemer! (Dec 8, 2025) by Kari Yli-Renko
Dear Brothers, Please see the e-invite for the Hamilton Christmas Social at C-Hotel on December 29th at bottom of the email today. It is with great sadness that I report the passing of John Westeinde last week. He was part of the Manotick group for several years and came to Christ just a few weeks before passing! This week we do The first week of Advent messages on our Kinsman Redeemer From Psalm 107:1-2 1 Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good! For His [a]mercy endures forever. 2 Let the redeemed of the Lord say so, Whom He has redeemed from the hand of the enemy, This week we consider the Psalmist who invites us to thank the Lord for His goodness and steadfast love. God shows His love by redeeming His people who are in great need. This is clearly seen in Advent when we remember Jesus, our Kinsman Redeemer. Some of us aren’t familiar with this Old Testament term, to our loss. The kinsman-redeemer is a male relative who, according to various laws of the Old Covenant, had the privilege or responsibility to act on behalf of a relative who was in trouble, danger, or need. The Hebrew term (go el) for kinsman-redeemer designates one who delivers or rescues, or redeems property or person. The kinsman who redeems or vindicates a relative is illustrated most clearly in the book of Ruth, where the kinsman-redeemer is Boaz. But, here is the key. To redeem you had to be a close relative. This is why Jesus had to come in the flesh and become one of us. So that He could be our Brother like Hebrews says. In the New Testament, Christ is often regarded as our kinsman-redeemer because, as our brother (Hebrews 2:11), He also redeems us because of our great need, one that only He can satisfy. In Ruth 3:9, we see a beautiful and poignant picture of the needy supplicant, unable to rescue herself, requesting of the kinsman-redeemer that he cover her with his protection, redeem her, and make her his wife. In the same way, the Lord Jesus Christ bought us for Himself, out of the curse, out of our destitution; made us His own beloved bride; and blessed us for all generations. He is the true kinsman-redeemer of all who call on Him in faith. So, like the Psalmist we can give thanks to the Lord, for He is good! His steadfast love endures forever. 2 Let the redeemed of the Lord say so We are redeemed by our Lord Jesus Christ, our Kinsman Redeemer. Gospel Greetings #294- 21 Irrefutable Laws Ch 11: The Law Of The... (12.1.25) by Kari Yli-Renko
Dear Brothers, Thank you for all who came to the healing service for Gerry Visser last Thursday. It was a blessed and sacred time. Please continue to prayed for Gerry, Wilma and family. This week we continue The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership with Chapter 11 The Law Of The Inner Circle From Genesis 24:1, 2, 4 1 Abraham was now very old, and the Lord had blessed him in every way. 2 He said to the senior servant in his household, the one in charge of all that he had, 4 go to my country and my own relatives and get a wife for my son Isaac.” Abraham had a matter of supreme importance to get done. To find a godly wife for his son Isaac, who was not a Canaanite. But, at well over 100 years old, he was unable to go himself. So who does he send? His trusted, yet unnamed aid. And, the man does well, by going to Abraham’s kinsmen and coming back with Rebekah. So, Maxwell says that A Leader’s Potential Is Determined by Those Closest to Him Whenever we see incredibly accomplished people, it’s easy to believe that they got there by themselves and give them all the credit. Yet, nothing truly great was achieved by one person alone. This is especially true of leaders. For a leader to achieve at all—or even be considered a leader—he or she needs a team. Together, they can make an impact. How much of an impact depends on who is on the team—and especially those in the inner circle. The people in a leader’s inner circle need to represent the leader well, make the leader better, or both. 1. First, they should be trustworthy. If they’re going to represent or influence you, they should demonstrate excellence, maturity, and good character in everything they do. 2. Next, they should add value to you and the team. A team consists of individuals who contribute at every level. The people you invite into your inner circle should have a proven track record as assets, both to the organization and to you personally. 3. Also, You need people whose gifts complement yours. Leaders can’t be strong in every area. Don’t fill your team with people just like you. Instead, include individuals in your inner circle who are gifted where you are not. 4. Finally, Seek for your inner circle people who get along and help you and each other improve. Solomon of ancient Israel recognized this truth when he wrote, “As iron sharpens iron, friends sharpen the minds of each other.” But don’t forget, the first step is to grow in godly character. And then surround yourself with the best leaders you can find. Hamilton Christmas Social - Save the date, December 29th at the ‘C Hotel’, Christmas social with spouses. Gospel Greetings #293- 21 Irrefutable Laws Ch 10: The Law Of Connection (11.24.25) by Kari Yli-Renko
Dear Brothers, There will be a healing service for Gerry Visser this Thursday November 27th, at Grace Community Christian Reformed Church. 70 Garner Street Road, Hamilton at 7:00pm. He will be prayed for and anointed with oil. This week we continue The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership with Chapter 10 The Law Of Connection From Philemon 1:8,9 8 Therefore, although in Christ I could be bold and order you to do what you ought to do, 9 yet I prefer to appeal to you on the basis of love. This short letter is amazing to me. We see Paul, the apostle and man of God not using hos spiritual authority, but making a heart connection with Philemon on behalf of his servant. What a lesson for us. This week’s big idea is that “Leaders Touch a Heart Before They Ask for a Hand” Maxwell says that it is vital that a leader connects with a person at an emotional level before that leader gives instruction or asks a person to do something. A good leader looks to find a connection with a person through shared interests or even a joke before giving instruction. He gives the following guidelines: 1. Be relational, not positional: Barking orders is positional. It assumes that your employees will rush to obey simply because you’re in charge. But remember, leadership is influence. And people will ultimately follow you because they want to. This was the approach Paul took with Philemon and it is recorded for eternity in the Bible! 2. Take the first step: Many leaders assume that connecting is the responsibility of followers. They think, I’m the boss. It’s their job to find out what I want. Let them come to me. But effective leaders are initiators. 3. Listen and learn: Listen to who they are and what they want. Communication is about more than the message. You need to know your audience and meet them where they are. 4. Be authentic and offer real help: Don’t act caring. Be caring. Believe in your people’s value. And practice what you preach. When your words accurately represent who you are, what you believe, and how you act, you gain credibility with your team. And people want to partner with a leader they believe in. What could happen in your area of responsibility if you connected with others more effectively? Gospel Greetings #292- 21 Irrefutable Laws, Ch 9: The Law Of Magnetism! (11.17.25) by Kari Yli-Renko
Dear Brothers, This week we continue The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership with Chapter 9 The Law Of Magnetism From Exodus 33:9, 11 9 As Moses went into the tent, the pillar of cloud would come down and stay at the entrance, while the Lord spoke with Moses. 11 The Lord would speak to Moses face to face, as one speaks to a friend. Then Moses would return to the camp, but his young aide Joshua son of Nun did not leave the tent. The Law of magnetism states that ‘Who you are is who you attract.’ Moses is called “The man of God” multiple times in scripture. His successor would also need to be this type of man. How do you attract good candidates who possess the qualities you desire? You may be surprised because who you attract is not determined by what you want. It’s determined by who you actually are. Why are the Dallas cowboys, once so revered and respected, now the subject of conflict and controversy? For years Tex Schram and coach Tom Landry ran a tight ship that focused on character and excellence. Now the owner is Jerry Jones who likes to be in the spotlight and creates controversy to get it. Jerry attracts who he is! Maxwell lists 3 characteristics that you probably consider important in a team member: 1. Positive attitude: Positive people aren’t attracted to a negative work environment. They don’t want to work for leaders who talk about how bad things are all the time. The good news is that attitude is a choice. When you choose to focus on the good, you will create a culture that positive people want to be part of. 2. Trustworthiness: Most of us don’t consider ourselves untrustworthy. But there is more to trustworthiness than just not lying. To be worthy of trust involves telling the whole truth, keeping commitments, and acknowledging reality. If you want to attract followers who are trustworthy, be real. Only make commitments that you will keep. And don’t ignore or deny troublesome issues. 3. Work ethic: Want team members who are willing to work hard? Then let people see you hard at work. Don’t expect punctuality or a commitment to excellence from others if you come in late or do your job half-heartedly. Your list probably includes other traits, such as perseverance, energy, or growth potential. The Law of Magnetism still applies. If you focus on developing the qualities in yourself that you want from others, you will build a unified team that can achieve a great deal together. Joshua was in the tent of meeting with Moses. He never left. Like Moses, He was a man of God. Who are you attracting today? Hamilton Christmas Social - Save the date, December 29th at the ‘C Hotel’, Christmas social with spouses.
