Is Your Group Working?

Do you ever stop to think about the effectiveness of your small group? We often think about curriculum, member care, communication, recruiting for conferences and such. But, deeper questions often go unexamined. Issues such as: What is our group’s purpose in being together? What are our expected outcomes? What would “good fruit” look like?
Yet we all know groups, or have been part of groups that have met for years without any closer examination or reflection on these issues. We can be digging into scripture, memorizing verses, praying, with full attendance and yet be stuck.
I see three major indicators of a healthy group:
Growth – new people added and new groups being spawned
Vitality – members spiritual maturity, especially obedience, being enhanced
Care – a heart for reaching out, and actual reaching out to lost and hurting people
In the ministry I’m a part of, (LIG) our groups are missional entities, where people are brought together for a purpose. I’m thankful for that.
How do you evaluate the effectiveness of your small group?
