The Best Decision Ever

At the Fall Build Up Conference near Ottawa last weekend, I heard some great teaching by Andy Stanley on making wise decisions. Andy spoke about the best question ever and the best decision ever. While both were great, the over-riding view of many attendees who were followers of Jesus was that the wisest decision part was most essential.
Andy shared that each of us needs to know the principles or rules of every area of life in order to make wise choices. Examples included rules of taxation, accounting, driving, etc. Now, knowing the rules doesn’t make the decision, it just limits the options of making the decision. As we continue on in making wise decisions, another factor appears; more than being aware of principles or rules, will we submit ourselves to those principles?
Andy shared examples from scripture, most notably Solomon, the wisest man (besides Jesus) who ever lived. Solomon says:
“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.” (Proverbs 9:10 NIV)
When we hear “fear of the Lord”, we think of a horror movie. Solomon seems to be indicating something different. To him, the fear of The Lord indicates a recognition and reverence that leads to submission.
So, wisdom and making wise choices rests on recognizing and submitting to God as the beginning of any wisdom. Solomon goes farther. He says that knowledge of the Holy One is true understanding. We may find that some of our greatest regrets happened when we were consciously running from God. If that is the case, and it often is.. then the wisest thing to do is pre-decide to not run from God and to submit to His will.
As Henry Blackaby states in Experiencing God “joining God requires major adjustments and obedience”. Can you say with Andy Stanley, Henry Blackaby and many other saints “I have pre-decided to obey you God in all areas of life”? Can you agree that to surrender control of your life to the Lord is the wisest thing to do? If not, why not?!?
We who are called to “go make disciples of all nations”, are we also willing to teach them to obey everything He has commanded? Maybe we need to really obey first! For more information of predeciding to surrender to God’s will see “The Life” at the following web link. http://thelife.com
The prayer of submission in “The Life” is: Dear Jesus, I want you in the center of my life and commit through your power, to serve and obey you. Anytime. Anywhere. At any cost. To do anything You ask.
Will you absolutely surrender every area of your life to God? Right now as an act of faith? Now that is wisdom! Please let me know if you did.
